Contrast Therapy
I've been attending a local sauna and ice bath therapy centre for the last couple of months. I've dabbled in the use of infrared sauna in the past, finding is an interesting mental and physical challenge. I've also experience cold therapy through a friend that converted an old chest freezer into an ice bath. This is however, the first time that I have mixed the two together and done both practices more consistently. My practice has generally been attending the centre four times per week, with each visit consisting of two twenty minute sauna sessions, with a six minute ice bath following each one. I've found that both the sauna and ice bath have become much more tolerable over the course of the few months that I have been doing the sessions, and that I genuinely look forward to them at the end of my day. I've also found that the time away from the centre and days inbetween my mental state of mind is much more calm. This is something that I have been struggling with since completing my university degree and feeling constantly in a rush and under pressure. It has been a breath of fresh air to find that this practice is useful for my mental and physical health and I recommend other do their own research into how this practice might help them.
